Ways you can give to the Whittier

Ways of Giving

You can give to the Whittier with any of the following methods:

Whittier Friends: Individuals who make gifts of $1,000 or more within a given year become members of The Whittier Friends, founded in 1982 as the vanguard of our annual giving program.

Friend $1,000
J.B. Collip Circle $10,000
Charles Best Circle $50,000
Sir Frederic Banting Circle $100,000
Confidence Circle $1,000,000

All members receive recognition on our Donor Wall, located in The Whittier’s lobby, as well as the following benefits:

  • Invitation to The Whittier’s annual dinner with the Board of Trustees and scientific staff, honoring recipient of The Confidence Foundation Award
  • The Whittier Diabetes Report, our quarterly publication
  • Invitations to receptions and lectures
  • Tour of The Whittier Institute, including laboratories

Partner for a Cure: Through this program supporters can partner with one of the many researchers in The Whittier’s Islet Cell Laboratory. Unique benefits include one on one time with the investigator learning first hand about their contributions to diabetes research. Annual partnerships range from $2,500 - $10,000.

Special Occasion Gifts: Gifts can be designated in memory of a friend or loved one, or for a special occasion, such as a birthday or an anniversary. Many people have found great satisfaction by making gifts in memory of a friend or loved one, or to honor someone who is fighting diabetes. Others have made important contributions as a way of recognizing those who are making a difference in the lives of patients with diabetes, such as a physician, educator, or researcher.

The Whittier Annual Fund: Gifts of unrestricted support are fundamental in providing The Whittier with the flexibility to pursue innovative ideas and grow existing areas of opportunity.

Research Programs: The Whittier Diabetes Research Program encompasses 7 principal investigators and their researchers. Their wide range of investigations are among the most highly regarded in the field. In addition to supporting the research of our principal investigators, we also make available the opportunity to fund research that would otherwise go unfunded through the Intramural Research Grant Program. This program includes a $2 million endowment made possible by The Charles and Anna Stern Foundation to provide financial support for post-doctoral fellows (junior faculty). The opportunity to work with some of the world’s most highly regarded diabetes researchers has attracted many young scientists to our program. The Pilot and Feasibility Study Grant Program is another opportunity to assist most promising young scientists in their pursuit of new ideas and collection of preliminary data necessary to attract national research support.

Whittier Golf Tournament : La Jolla Country Club, with its sweeping view of La Jolla and the Pacific Ocean, is the site of The Whittier’s annual golf tournament, scheduled for Monday, October 20th, 2008. The day on the greens is capped off by hors d’oeuvres, silent and live auctions, and dinner with all proceeds directly benefiting our diabetes research and patient programs. for more information go to www.whittiergolf.org

Planned Giving: Gifts made through your will and special gift arrangements in estate planning not only can help The Whittier, but can provide your or your family with a reliable source of income and substantial tax benefits. Also, gifts of this manner are an excellent way to leave a legacy of support for critical advances in diabetes research and patient education.
