Diabetes Trials

Landmark Study Underway to Help Predict and Prevent Onset of Diabetes

The Whittier Institute for Diabetes is one of 18 medical centers in the U.S., Europe and Australia participating in the TrialNet study. The study screens relatives of people with type 1 diabetes to find out if these family members are "at risk" for developing type 1 diabetes. Screening involves a simple blood test from the arm to look for diabetes-related autoantibodies that may appear years before type 1 diabetes develops. The goal of TrialNet is to perform intervention studies to preserve insulin-producing cells in individuals at risk for type 1 diabetes and in those with new onset type 1 diabetes. click here to download information on  trial net
